The
22nd IAEA Fusion Energy Conference
was held from the 13th
to the 18th of October
2008. Researchers who specialize
in the fields related to nuclear
fusion research get together
biyearly from all over the
world to report their accomplishments
in various researches to actualize
nuclear fusion. This year,
the conference was held in
Geneva, Switzerland at the
Palace of Nations of the
United Nations Office at
Geneva (UNOG), where the
commemorable 2nd International
Conference on the
Peaceful Uses of
Atomic Energy (held
in 1958) that served as
the founder of nuclear
fusion research was held;
for, the year 2008 corresponds
to the 50th year since
the latter international
meeting. The 22nd Fusion
Energy Conference turned
out to be a major meeting
with over 800 participants
from 50 different
nations. From the National
Institute for Fusion Science
(NIFS), we presented
60 research reports and gained
high marks from other participants.
At the last day of the conference
was held a summary session
to wrap up the entire meeting
for 6 days, and Prof. Motojima,
the Director-General of NIFS,
was appointed a general presenter
for the experimental research.
Prof. Motojima reviewed the
latest research accomplishment
reported at the conference,
looked back the 50 years history
of nuclear fusion research,
and finally summarized the
current of nuclear fusion research
where a definite goal toward
