City of Mino-ware

Toki is famous as the "City of Mino-ware", and one of the largest ceramic producing area in Japan. Toki has a long history of pottery-making for approximately 1,300 years, as this area produces high-quality clay. Remains of old kilns scattered around the city and white bare mountains in the suburbs where clay was dug out indicate that this area is blessed with natural resources and conditions suited for pottery-making.
