Abstract:

A file exchange system based on FTP service named cftp (Computer Center’s FTP service) wasdeveloped for exchanging the files which is too large to send by e-mail on July, 2003. The usercan privately exchange the files with this system which strictly separates the user’s directories. Thisseparation is made by the “guest user” function added by wu-ftpd, the famous FTP server software. The account on cftp system is rapidly issued when the user sends a request e-mail to the system. The account is valid only for seven days for avoiding the security problems. This system comprisesthe UNIX account system, wu-ftpd, and Perl script. This service has been offered to the community of National Institute for Fusion Science for threeyears and six months. On this report, the outlines of the script program for the system are explained. The usability and the next generation system are also discussed on the basis of the answers to a questionnaire.
