Abstract:

Flute interchange stability of the tandem mirror GAMMA l0 with a minimum-B MHD anchor is studied numerically. The stability criterion in beta value is obtained and its axial pressure profile-dependence is also analyzed. It is shown that the anchor beta value for stability is reduced when the axial localization of a mirror-trapped hot plasma becomes narrower in the central cell or/and in the anchor cell.
