Abstract:

The phenomena caused by the transport of the plasma across the magnetic filed in toroidal devices are surveyed, and theoretical models are reviewed. First topics is the plasma structure in a steady state. The recent development of the theory on the plasma transport driven by the microscopic turbulence is explained. The sudden change in confinement, such as the H-mode transition in tokamaks, is discussed next. The physics of the bifurcation of the edge plasma, based on the dynamics of the radial electric field, is discussed. Finally, the role of the anomalous transport on the disruptive phenomena is reviewed.
