Abstract:

A modification of the three dimensional MHD equilibrium code, HINT, is proposed to analyze a Large Helical Device (LHD) equilibrium with an m/n=1/1 island. The equilibrium analysis is required in the local island divertor (LID) experiment, in order not only to measure structures of magnetic field lines but also to lead an optimized condition of the equilibrium. In a calculation of the equilibrium with the island, there is a numerical difficulty caused from the fact that a derivative of the pressure at the separatrix of the island is not well-behaved; i.e. it is diverged. The modified scheme has the ability to resolve the problem, and achieves the numerically appropriate analysis of an MHD equilibrium with such an island.
