Postgraduate study
If you wish to study in the NIFS graduate school, you may apply for admission to one of the following courses:
- Ph.D. course:
Fusion Science at Graduate University for Advanced Studies (Sokendai)
This is a doctorate program directly offered by NIFS. A degree will be conferred by the Sokendai graduate school at the completion of the three-year or the five-year course. - MSc /PhD courses:
Energy Engineering and Science, Nagoya University
Particle and Astrophysical Science, Nagoya University
Advanced Energy Engineering Science, Kyushu University
Department of Advanced Energy Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, The University of Tokyo
Department of Complexity Science and Engineering Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, The University of TokyoNIFS is home to some laboratories in these courses. You can be supervised by NIFS staff. A degree will be conferred by the university to which you belong at the completion of a course.

NIFS has academic tie-ups with these universities. Under the agreement, a series of special lectures are provided by NIFS staff at these universities. - Special Joint-Use Program
This is a short-term training program for students taking the MSc/PhD course of any relevant subject at other universities in Japan. Once qualified, you will be able to study at NIFS during a certain period and to be supervised by a NIFS researcher for particular subjects. - Internship Training
We conduct internships (work experience, research training, etc.) to experience research work related to fusion development based on the guidance of researchers.
